Vision Statment
We envision a community where veterans and seniors live securely, age with dignity, and remain connected through supportive housing environments that foster independence and well-being.
Statements of need
Veterans and seniors in Chicago face increasing housing instability due to rising rental costs, fixed incomes, limited affordable housing stock, and barriers related to age, disability, or past service-related trauma. Veterans are disproportionately represented among individuals experiencing housing insecurity, while many seniors live alone and at risk of isolation and displacement.
Independent U addresses this gap by offering shared housing placements that reduce costs, increase safety, and build community—while connecting residents to vital supportive services.
